As part of its environmental education policy, the Fustel des Coulanges Primary School has undertaken to set up a project to install a waste sorting area in the school yard. This space is intended for plastic waste, paper and cardboard waste and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
The inauguration ceremony of this space took place on 18 March 2022 on the occasion of the World Recycling Day at the esplanade of the Fustel de Coulanges Primary School. The presence of the Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), Mr. Pierre HELLE and that of His Excellency Roger Milla, Ambassador-at-Large, and many other authorities enhanced this event.
According to the account of a pupil of the CM2 class of the Fustel de Coulanges Primary School, the project was born from an intervention of Solidarité Technologique, in October 2021. This intervention consisted of raising the pupils’ awareness of the dangers of electronic waste and the management of this waste. This awareness was followed by a visit to the recycling centre by the pupils of the CE1, CM1 and CM2 classes, in November 2021.
Following these activities, the project was born under the name Operation #FustelDurable in collaboration with 3 waste recycling structures: Solidarité Technologique for electronic waste, SITRACEL for paper/cardboard waste and the Coeur d’Afrique Foundation for plastic bottles.
On 18 March 2022, on the occasion of International Recycling Day, the school inaugurated its waste sorting area. There are red, green and blue bins for WEEE, plastic bottles and paper/cardboard waste respectively.
In the presence of parents and several personalities, the ribbon was cut by Mr. Pierre Helle, Minister in charge of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. MILLA Roger, Cameroon’s Itinerant Ambassador, representatives of the project’s partner companies, among others.
